Weano Gorge - Day 08 of our 11 day tour - Spider Walk a Gorge
Monday
Spider walk today at Weano Gorge. I get up and cook some pancakes for breakfast and we headed out to Weano gorges feeling a bit stiff after our big walk up Mt Bruce yesterday.
We park the bus and walk to Oxer Lookout. This is breathtaking where four mighty gorges all join. We stand in awe, and appreciate the tremendous forces which tore apart the earth to create these gorges for generations to enjoy. (Once again you can not help but marvel at Nature).

We then have a relatively easy walk to loosen up the stiffness where we meander between rock walls and pools to Handrail Pool. We need to climb down a rope to reach this lovely pool that is great for swimming. A couple of us venture further on and see the next stage.

Retracing our steps after a refreshing swim or paddle or just sitting in the water or just plain marvelling at the gorges we arrive back at the top.
I make some hamburgers for lunch and then we are off again to Spider Walk.
The next gorge we tackle is Hancock gorge. We climb down a ladder and wander into the gorge – this time it is not just a simple matter of walking we have to do all sorts of different walks. You pick your trail and that may mean climbing a few metres up the gorge walls to get through and then we come across The Amphitheater.
Continuing on we then have to “Spider Walk”. (This is where you have your right foot and right hand on one side of the wall and your left foot and left hand on the other side of the wall and work your way through. Or if you prefer you can have both feet on one side and both hands on the other). This really gives you an adrenalin rush especially if the water is flowing fairly quickly just below you. We soon arrive at Kermit Pool and take extra care because the rocks are slippery. This is a very deep pool and we have another refreshing swim before it is time to head home again.
Spider Walk at Karijni NP (yes we walk through here).
Have a look where you can join us for our 11 day tour and see these amazing gorges Itinerary
Even though we have been a bit stiff after our last two days of activity we have been able to achieve all these walks (some of them are again difficult walking straight up the sides of the gorges) in relative comfort. Remember Crikey’s law of gravity?
That is all for the day and we go back to camp and have a Chinese banquet for dinner.
We are all feeling rather smug after achieving a great physical activity and viewing some of the most spectacular gorges in Australia.
