Plenty Salmon Ponds is a must see for the anglers.

The Museum of Trout Fishing is located at the Plenty Salmon Ponds in the picturesque Derwent Valley.

The museum houses a fascinating collection of memorabilia illustrating the many changes in fishing tackle over more than a hundred years. The collection is housed in the cottage built for the first superintendent of the Salmon Ponds in 1865. There is an excellent collection of fishing reels, rods, flies, lures and angling accessories. A variety of books, souvenirs and ‘fishy’ gifts are available.

The Plenty Salmon Ponds is the oldest trout hatchery in the Southern Hemisphere – in operation since 1864. There are six different ponds displaying trout and salmon including brown, rainbow, brook and tiger trout. Displays explain the annual cycle of fish breeding activities.
