Taste the Chocolates at Margaret River Chocolate Factory.
Our first stop is the Margaret River Chocolate factory. Here you will be able to see how they make chocolate and taste some samples of recently made chocolate. The Margaret River factory was opened in May 1999 by two friends who had no experience in chocolate, retailing or tourism but did have a passion for chocolate. Chocolate is one of the most luxurious, indulgent and universally loved foods in existence and has a rich history dating back more than 3000 years. Several hundred years after this the Aztecs christened it as the “Food of the Gods”. There was such a great response from the locals and tourists that a second factory was opened in the Swan Valley 12 months later. The company uses some of the finest raw ingredients in the world. They then blend and temper (change the physical structure through rapid heating and cooling) them to create they own flavour, texture and style. This blending and tempering is what distinguishes fine chocolate and has been practised for over 100 years. The chocolate is then ready to create the wonderful products we enjoy. Some of the chocolate products created by the Margaret River Chocolate Factory include chocolate bars (mild/dark/white chocolate – sugar free milk/dark chocolate): gourmet hand made truffles (including almond seashells, hazelnut toffee, Turkish delight, cookie cream delight, strawberry cream etc): chocolate coated delights (including roasted peanut slice, licorice, caramels, nougat): other products include (rocky road, giant freckles, biscuits, slices and of course Easter eggs). From its humble beginnings in Central America chocolate is now a multi-billion dollar commodity that is enjoyed in every country around the globe. A point of interest is all of the truffles, bars, sauces and chocolate coated products you see are made at either Margaret River or the other facility at Swan Valley.
