Margaret River is recognised as one of the world’s great fine wine producers. It has been only 40 years since the first vines were planted in the Margaret River region. Today the names of the Margaret River houses of wine grace the tables of the world with refinement and style – Leeuwin Estate is among the best of these.
Few locations are suited to producing distinctive premium wine. The Margaret River district is situated in the continent’s deep south-west, a young region unsullied by the impact of human population and development.
Surrounded by open water on three sides, the wine region is almost completely free of pollutants and contaminants. Year-round it is swept by pure, cool sea breezes, blowing in off the Indian and Southern Oceans. Mild, wet winters and sun-splashed summer seasons add to the viticultural equation.
Today, in addition to Leeuwin Estate, there are over 90 wineries that have been established on the Cape.
