Visit Kennedy Range and Mt Augustus on our 7 day Camping Tour
The Kennedy Range is an eroded plateau just south of the Tropic of Capricorn about 160km inland – as such theis area has a desert climate.
About 250 million years ago, the Gascoyne region was a shallow ocean basin off the edge of the ancient Australian continent. It filled with sediment, which later became compressed to form layers of sandstone and shale. Movements in the earth’s crust brought these above the sea level where erosion has stripped away much of the rock.
The Range appeared to separate the traditional lands of two Aboriginal tribes: the Maia to the west of the range and the Malgaru to the east.
Francis Thomas Gregory explored areas of the Gascoyne and Murchison and named the Kennedy Range in 1858 in honour of the then Governor of Western Australia, Arthur Edward Kennedy.
We have a 7 day tour package with everything supplied to this magnificent remote area of Western Ausgtralia. You will be travelling along a lot of dirt road of which the real remote outback area of Australia is all about.
