Jewel Cave is one of the most spectacular caves open for tours in Australia. The cave is noted for its formations and has one of the longest straw stalactites found in any tourist cave at about 580cms long.
The cave was opened to the public in 1960 and pathways have been thoughtfully developed to show off its many formations and not just to go on the easiest path.
The cave dwarfs visitors with its lofty chambers and has the only transparent acrylic tunnel section in any tourist cave in Australia measuring three metres. This allows us to pass through fragile sections without damaging any of the formations, but still allows us to view the features of the cave. The lighting is also very natural and indirect to show off the many formations.
Make sure you bring your camera for some of the spectacular formations including the famous Organ Pipes and the straws reflected on the lake at the lowest level of the cave.
We are underground for nearly an hour as part of our tour and the cave itself is about 1.9km long but only about 40 percent has been developed for tourism.
