Beer Damper cooked on Crikey camping tours

Beer damper is one of many variations available. Damper is a traditional bread baked in the coals of an open fire or in a camp oven. It is just as easy to bake it in a normal oven though.

Beer Damper in the oven -

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups self raising flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • 375 ml beer
METHOD
  • Place flour in a bowl. Make a well in the centre and add the butter and beer.
  • Mix it to a soft dough. Add extra flour if you need to. Shape the dough into a ball and flatten it slightly.
  • Wrap the ball in aluminum foil and place in the centre of the oven on medium heat (375degrees).
  • Bake it until it has risen and brown - about 25-30 minutes.
Excellent with golden syrup, jam or goes well with your soup etc.
