Our site is not only about our tours, but we provide a bit of history or interesting information about where we visit. In this issue I have concentrated on the Toyota Muster at Gympie and all the great work they do to raise funds for charities. In 1993, Australia was suffering the worst drought on record. The Club decided to commit all funds raised to support the national drought appeal. As a result, the Rural Aid Appeal was initiated. The Appeal annually raises funds for a major charity each year through the sale of compilation CDs and a range of specially designed merchandise. Over the years, Rural Aid beneficiaries have included Diabetes Australia, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Leukaemia Foundation, Youth Suicide Prevention, VISE (Volunteers for Isolated Students Education), Transplant Australia and the Melanoma Foundation. The Muster was created in 1982, Gympie based country music trio, the Webb Brothers, picked up a Golden Guitar for "Who Put The Roo In The Stew?" at the Tamworth Country Music Festival - a celebration was called for! After enlisting the help of the local Apex Club of Gympie, a celebratory fund-raiser was held on the Webb's 100-year old property at Thornside. A ball and dinner on the Saturday night was followed by a selection of acts on the Sunday, the Muster's first Main Stage built out of bush timber and borrowed Queensland Rail tarpaulins. The showers were jam tins with holes punched into them, drophole toilets sufficed, drinking water was trucked to the site and patrons could buy a season pass for just $20. Since its inception, the Muster has raised more than $11,000,000 dollars for charities Australia-wide and annually raises up to $100,000 for the Rural Aid Appeal. Well another trip to Tamworth is over with some great sights both on the way over and back. We saw some more amazing performers with the Brewster Brothers Trio impressing me this year. John and Rick were founding members and songwriters for “The Angels” and with these two plus the versatile Paul Robert Burton they are well worth listening to if you get the chance. Another artist who impressed me was Ryan Sampson. Ryan is a local 21 year old from Tamworth with an amazingly powerful country voice. We had a great meal at the Peel Inn Nundle when we drove down there for out day out and saw Ryan performing. We have also recently been to Busselton for Southbound and Boyup Brook for their music festivals. The next one is Gympie in August and then Mildura in September for their Music Festivals. Not forgetting our normal tours of course.
